happy monday.

they say behind every dark cloud there’s a beautiful rainbow. the saying is mouthed so often it gets too cliche to even be taken seriously anymore. but people still say it anyway because hope’s what keeps a person going. :)

why am i saying all these. haha. i had a very bad time at work last week. dreading to come to work, things really just got great today. maybe because i cleaned my room over the weekend and tidied up my entire wardrobe. and very successfully turned the whole room storm into sparkle! and also jeng jeng jeng jeng,  i lost weight! so i feel very organised and uncluttered and light right now. hahahaha. i even made an effort to pick up today’s working attire yesterday night so i didnt have to start up another wardrobe storm this morning, needing to get ready in 5 minutes before i’m officially late. again. as always.

today i even had time for make-up! so it was a nice drive to mont’kiara without having to multitask between the foundation, blusher, and wheel. and 140km/h 90km/h. i dont even draw my eyes anymore because everytime i do i get all these weird stares from the other car drivers around me. hello, efficient time management can! so today i had bigger, nicer eyes and i feel like i can do more work because can see more things. hahahaha so stupid.

and while driving the radio station played all my favourite songs! what are the odds!! :) “when i hear the clock start ticking i start to miss you… the only thing i’ll do is start to dream of you… talk about love love and i cant stop thinking of you” boyfriend do you remember this song!! when he was going after me he sent me this song and a few days later he said he was really happy because the radio played the song while he was driving to work and ”i was thinking of you throughout”. :)

while working the most-unwanted man at work came in and gave me 2 little gifts. can you all not dislike him because he is actually very cute! he gave me this really cute tiny paper cutter and a pair of canal earphones so i can now listen to music with good sound quality (and end up not being able to hear my phone ring). the two yellow speaker balls foong gave me has really bad and coarse sound quality every song becomes pasarmalam dubbed.

then on our way to lunch some drama unfolded and i was caught in an arguement with my dad. he got upset he ended my phone call and suddenly i was sucked right back to the pit. but everything got sorted out so perfectly i instantly felt lifted and had appetite to eat my four sea herbal chicken soup. and i have to say this – the guys at kimgary plaza damas are the best and their regular pamperings always make up my whole rainbow thing. :)

monday’s not that blue after all?
okay bye i’m late for happy hour again.

680kms, cameron highlands.

it took us quite a drive to reach cameron. along the car ride we were entertained by many bridal cars that passed us by. january 31st must have been an auspicious day!! i was also particularly quiet throughout, secretly thinking, imagining, trying to paint our wedding a beautiful picture. he kept interupting on and off to ask if i was okay because i was quiet and because i didnt sing #$^*(!~^$#%!!

we took the new route up the hills this time. penang – cameron toll rm18.60. i got myself to sleep right before we started the winding uphill journey to avoid feeling all giddy and sick. the next hour i woke up in camerons. :) the route led us directly to the other end of cameron highlands. so instead of passing ringlet, tanah rata, then brinchang, we came the opposite way. winson said he preferred the usual old route because the one we took was too ’straight’ and ‘boring’. tsk, what’s with guys and winding drives?!

we checked in equatorial hotel at 3pm sharp and napped for abit before heading down town for pancake! :)

yong teng cafe, better known as the pancake place, serves the nicest pancakes ever! this shop is run by a chinese couple that are unable to speak nor hear.  they’ll pass you a note and pen to write down your order and i always sign off with a pretty smiley face :) like that. they are really friendly and it’s become a must-visit everytime we camp up at camerons.

i personally loved their apple pancake most but many preferred the peach, strawberry, or banana ones. you have a choice to have it with or without ice-cream and honey. about rm4.50 per plate.

since we missed lunch, we ordered their chicken chop to fill up abit. apart from the chicken being abit too tough, it was really yummy! a plate cost rm9.50 and it comes with a huge portion of fried chicken fillet, red beans, egg cooked sunny side up, and some fries! it was too good we went back there again for their chicken chop before leaving camerons the next day.

t-cafe (now known as the lord’s cafe) is closed on a sunday, so we took a short drive around the hill towards brinchang. we passed by this apartment that i thought was interesting so i hurried snap a photo. it was particularly eye-catching because everywhere was just greens and signages and smacked right in the middle of all that was this yellow building made colorful by laundry. :)

we ended up at strawberry moments cafe for a drink. most of the items listed on menu were, obviously, with strawberries, and they were all pretty pricey. we hesitated for awhile and decided to forgo ordering their sweets. me without make-up and him with such a forceful mata sepet smile. tsk tsk!

his strawberry cappucino and my strawberry iced-tea. his was okay and mine was disappointingly almost tasteless.

after that we had dinner! i wanted to go back to the restaurant at tanah rata where i had steamboat at 3 years ago, but winson insisted that brinchang was the better place for such. we took a walk around brinchang town and the waitresses from the restaurants around made nonstop bugging attempts to lure us into their restaurant. we settled down at the restaurant he’s been to with ian previously and ordered a steamboat set for two. instead of the rm35 stated on the menu, we got a discounted rm30 (because i think we told them we were keen on trying the charcoal method and they didnt have any). though, it wasn’t that great because their sauce was such a turn down!! we also didnt touch the meehoon so i told the owner and instead of at least rinsing through once, he took it and gave it to another table. tsk dont go there anymore ok!

the very final obligatory car travel photo taken the next morning!

i was actually pretty moody because i refused to get out of bed this early but he irritated with short interval repeats of ”breakfast?” hello it was only 9:30am!!! i got my way through with bringing him back to our objective and aim of this whole holiday (which was to relax and by waking up early i wasn’t relaxing ok! it wasn’t even in any of the clause we agreed upon.) so we got out of hotel at 11 something and checked out.

we stopped at kea farm and bought huge AAA grade corns! 6 for rm10! :) and to cheer me up for waking up early, he bought me a solar flower thingamajigy that flaps under light. i named it emily but he kept calling her esmeralda after that. err?!

we went to t-cafe! okay no, it’s the lord’s cafe now. they have really nice scones. :) we spent quite awhile there before heading back to the pancake place for chicken chop. while getting the bill, i chat up with the lady owner and asked about the sudden name change. she said she wanted to give glory back to god after the lord spoke to her last year. it was inspiring listening to her story. she must have had great courage going through the whole process of getting the license changed and all with the government.

got back down and arrived ampang at about 5. the duta toll cost rm19.40. the trip was altogether very relaxing and comfortable, and it was a really wonderful time having to just spend with him before he flies off to new zealand in march. maybe we should do another one before he leaves! :) :)

oh, penang.

the next morning (after having to drag me out from bed), we headed for dim sum!

the obligatory car travel photo.

we ended up at this supposingly famous dim sum place opposite kdu college. the food was such a let down and the lady who counted our total bill was bad at cheating. at first she quoted the first amount. awhile later she said she forgot to count the other 2 plates, so she gave us another amount. just wondering, we asked the prices for each dish (to count for ourselves), and she suddenly gave us another different amount. still counting for myself she then gave me the final amount. her prices kept changing, i got upset, he paid and we just left. whoever thought that this place was a great must-visit, there, i just mythbusted it for you.

we drove up to penang hills with the help of google maps! i love google maps! :) but hate my boyfriend because he drives so fast i keep missing the turning points and he gets upset but tries to hide it. tsk! i can feel it wan ok!! apparently there was this cable car thingy up at the hills that brings you to a higher ground. turns out it was a train ride instead.

the queue wasn’t that bad and the crowd was less, seeing that it was still slighty before noon. though, seats were limited and we ended up having to stand most of our journey to and fro. the train goes half way up hill, stop for everyone to switch to another train that goes further to the top.

at the top, about 700+km above sea level. the view was pretty but it was not worth the stuffy and hellish train ride. took us about 45 minutes to get up and another 45 minutes down. i ended up having nausea from the heat and train momentum that we decided to pass for kek lok si temple.

up at the hills. he got me an ice-cream and a 100-plus himself and we left soon after. an experience.

the view back from our hotel room at cititel. i was so tired i napped right after we got back and stayed in while winson got down to get his dose of the famous penang cendol.

he got me a huge packet and we poured it into 2 glasses. it was good! the stall, run by chinese, is located at lorong keng kwee, off penang road.

at night we drove over to gurney for the yet another obligatory penang must-eat. oh-jian, grilled fish, asam laksa, and char kuey teow. kl’s version of those are much nicer, but then again, we obviously went to the wrong place.

we checked out the next morning, headed to buy some penang tau sah peah and beh teh shaw, had lunch, and was all ready to head to cameron. the char kuey teow was good! they had lap cheong also!! :)

winson’s prawn mee that’s nice too! the prawns were minced together with pork and served like a pork noodle. yums!

goodbye, penang!

and off to cameron we went! :)

at point zero kilometer

we took off from ampang, all set to a short get-away at penang and cameron highlands! :)

we drove the peugeot this time and it was just nice for two of us! :) except it didnt play mp3s! tsk tsk!

148kms later, we arrived bidor!
toll from kl – bidor = rm16.

food were pretty expensive though. we had lunch at the famous pun chun coffee shop but instead of their popular duck noodle, we had curry chicken and roasted chinese sausage (lap chiong) instead. rm8.80 for both the plates of noodle and rm1.40 for an iced-coffee! food wasn’t too bad, but neither too good to shout about.

we also ordered one wu kok (yam dumpling) for rm1.60 and it didn’t turn out that great either.

such a bad timing to visit bidor. ming’s back from australia and his grandparents run a very yummy duck noodle stall around. but (of all time, like i said) he was down in kl when i got there and i left him a facebook message asking if i got the right shop. his reply “nah, that is the famous one, not the delicious one!” tsk tsk!

then we got to ipoh! i was singing throughout the journey and i went “boyfriend you want my signature?” expecting him to go all gaga, he asked “errr… for what?” !$#*&^%(&*%# why is he like that!!

344kms later we arrived!
juru toll = rm25.80.

with the help of google maps (and my intelligence), we found our way around town, checked in cititel, and took a 2 hours nap! my aunt insisted for a dinner with us that evening.

she brought us to this buffet steamboat place called xuan xin. even though it was nothing new, the food was pretty good! :)

they had a huge variety, except they didnt have meatballs!!! pfft what kind of steamboat dinner is this! but they made it up because they also had this prawn paste fried chicken wings and a teppanyaki section that totally rocked our meal. :)

though, the best was really the time spent catching up with my aunt and cousins. apart from bangkok trips with my aunt, i’ve not seen them for quite a long while and seeing them so healthy and happy makes me happy. :) it was also winson’s first time meeting them and i thought he did pretty well! my aunt kept telling him “when you two getting married! must come back from new zealand you know! su ann is waiting for you!!” hahahaha my auntie’s so cute! :)

just the other day

we had yet another regular family get-together. as always, we had barbeque and some really yummy side dishes.

chicken strips, pork chops, chicken wings, bacon, toast, satay chicken, steak strips, sotong, fish, and steak! all very nicely marinated and tupperwared. :)

you see that tiny pot of thingamajigy right below the table? that’s actually a mosquito repellent in candle tub form. so much more effective and less smelly compared to the green coils.

pohleng reordering the food. we also had fruits, salad, tuna quiche, tua chai, cheese souffle, and lots of potato chips! i’d willingly choose the ruffles barbeque chips over bbq. so addictive!

kick-started the evening with some bacon pieces. my aunt and barbeque are the perfect illustration of east meets west. the whole night she chants on and on about “you sure it’s cooked or not! cook longer!! the fire not big enoughhh!!!!”

my older nieces on the pose while the other 2 beg for ruffles chips (at the far left). told you it was addictive! :)
